The name of the helicopter comes from the Greek: helix means spiral and ptéron wing. Today we are so used to helicopters that we take them for grant, but it is a type of aircraft that for centuries has had to remain relegated to people’s dreams and the projects of the genius Leonardo da Vinci, and that only in the last few decades has become the safe, reliable and everyday means that we all know and appreciate.
The first idea of a flying

The first to patent, therefore, was the Englishman Henry Bright in 1859; this was follow – in 1863 – by a similar patent, register in France by Viscount Gustave Ponton d’Amecourt: a flight pioneer who even built a model equipped with a steam engine, which – despite the demonstrat aerodynamic validity of the project – was not able to develop enough power to lift the heavy helicopter prototype (among other things, d’Amecourt is responsible for the invention of the term “helicopteres”, with which he identifi his prototypes).
The first real helicopter with
