The advertisements that are sent out into the world via Google Ads must of course meet certain standards. For example, the content may not be provocative and things like drugs or forging documents may absolutely not be advertised. This is to keep the internet – the surface web at least – clean and free of crime. Nevertheless, certain accounts continue to make mistakes with their advertisements, both in text and Display ads . Starting in September 2021, Google Ads will launch its pilot program aimed at tackling accounts that repeatedly violate advertising policies. The company writes the following about this in an explanation within the online help center :
“Warnings and strikes will be issued to accounts
that do not adhere to our advertising policies – this includes ads that promote deceptive behavior or products such as false documents, hacking services, tobacco, drugs or weapons.”
Of course, such ads have been banned for a long time, but there was never a system to actually punish accounts. Until now. With the 3-strike pilot, Google hopes to put an end to recurring policy violations by actually handing out appropriate punishments.
How the 3-strike system works
For a first violation of Google Ads advertising policy, you will not be punished immediately. However, you will receive an official warning. The duration of a strike
Google has determined that strikes expire after 90 days.
